I smiled back at you...

I smiled back at you…

“I appear at times merry and in good heart, talk, too, before others quite reasonably, and it looks as if I felt, too, God knows how well within my skin. Yet the soul maintains its deathly sleep and the heart bleeds from a thousand wounds.”

– Hugo Wolf

These eyes

I caught you staring at me
It must have been my glittering eyes;
like crystals in the sand
on a warm summer day

Inside they are shards of glass

I smiled back at you
At least it felt like a smile;
I can no longer taste my tears, Priya Patel
only the crystals that
forever glitter in these eyes…

(A dedication to my aunt, Amita foi, whom I love and miss so very much)
