Garden of Eden

As the passerby stooped low
To admire the wild flower
Little did he know
That it was the flower which
Swallowed away my heart
For it was a man-eater
Destined to bloom
Into a forbidden fruit!

Her eyes were sparkling pools
Inviting one to step in
Little did I know
I was diving into
A swamp of sinking sand
To drown into eternity
Never to surface again
Into the real world!

Now I stand away
And gaze at the flowers
From a distance far
For it is now I know
Fragrance touches more
Than a distant dream
Love doesn’t last as much
As stabbing pangs of pain!
