Pinda-dana,
O, you, do you pinda-dana,
Give you matter,
Offer you to the bereaved soul,
Departed spirit
For its shantih,
Peace and rest
From the bonds of maya
Was it released!

And the spirit returned to
Where was it from
The soul,
Pinda to pinda,
Earth to earth,
Wind to wind,
Fire to fire,
Water to water
And spirit to spirit
And remained it not
Anything to be claimed here!

O, offer you,
The foodgrains
Cooked in broken bowls,
Somehow cooked
Just for the ritual sake,
Food rolled
And given with
Water and others!

The world a pinda,
One of grahas and gocharas,
The body too was pinda,
Made from earthly objects,
Physical and bodily,
A part of matter and mass.
