In which forest,
Which forest deep
Lie you playing the been
And the cobras swaying to the tune of,
the melodies breaking
And the music haunting,
In which forest,
Forest deep
Lie you playing the been
And the melodies breaking,
Haunting
And the cobras swaying,
Swaying to the tune of yours,
Charmer!

A bagpipe-like instrument
Named the been
Can be so musical and melodious
And haunting
And the cobras,
Whitish, blackly and grey
Hooded and haunting
Dancing to the tune of
The melodies breaking,
The notes so musical and sonorous!

The cobras dreaded and frightening,
The charmer
Charming with the tune
And catching them in full confidence
Tactically,
Making them smell the grass root,
Taking the name of the snake-god and the goddess
And catching them
To place into the small bamboo baskets.

In which forest,
Deep forest
Lie you playing the been,
The wooden instrument,
The melodies breaking,
Haunting sweetly
And the cobras swaying,
Swaying to the tune of
The been,
O charmer,
Risking your life?
