FAR APART

FAR APART

Some things I would hold dear,
Vowing that I would never let them go,
But misfortune often pries open my fist,
Plans and dreams are shattered, they melt, and they dissolve-
Mirages.

Some friends I hold dear,
And cherish all the time we spend together,
I am filled with nostalgia
Each time that I remember
The things we did; and those we did not,
Of how we met; of how some have lasted when they stay,
How some have departed; never to meet again in this world,
Their past presence lingers on, yet still remain out of this realm-
Out of reach.

A special friend I have held dear; you.
But your existence was threatened
So you keep fading away in mysterious ways;
Under a shroud where friendship is unwelcome,
You hide away,
But we are not to blame for the way it is,
Maybe it is who we are – magnet and glass,
Maybe it is the way we should be,
And I guess we have to remain so,
Just like our worlds-
Far apart.

Cheetah

Cheetah

The cheetah
Tear-eyed and dotted
And spotted
Running into the wilds
With the burning,
Burning eyes,
The cheetah
Into the wilds
With the fiery wrath of it,
Bloody, brutal and bestial.

Cheetah,
The cheetah spotted and dotted,
Fiery and bloody
Running into the wilds
With the burning, burning eyes
An animal
Swift, tameless and proud,
A brute so bestial
And bloody.

Cheetah,
The bloody cheetah,
Brutal cheetah
With the burning, burning eyes
Pouncing into the forests
Wild and fiery,
Dense and deep
And the deer running for cover,
Fleeing and fleeing
For safety,
Hiding and hiding to save.

Oh, the rule of the wild I could not,
The rule of the jungle
And those of the jungles
Where wrath held its sway over,
Furies ran wild,
Ferocity visible
And the monsters
Having their turns
Into the forests
Of ignorance!

But with the clearance of the forests
Wild and stretchy
The number has dwindled
And it is difficult to find
The cheetahs
Running into the forests
Dense and deep,
The cheetahs spotted and dotted
And printed,
Wild, swift and proud
With the jaws and claws of its own,
Paws bloody, brutal and bestial.

A Red Rose

A Red Rose

A red rose,
Think you
A red rose,
A red rose
Standing
Before you
As a maiden
Sweet and lovely,
Rosy and smiling,
A maid,
Just,
Just like
A red, red rose
So dazzling and glossy,
Glazy and fast hued
A maiden,
Maiden
Just, Just like a red,
Red rose
And you eyeing,
Eyeing,
Unable to resist
The temptation
Of seeing
Eve.

In the garden of Nature
A rose,
A red rose,
Rose is Rose,
Let it be,
Red Rose,
A girl by name,
The lovely daughter
Nature mam,
Rose,
Red Rose
In its sweetness
And fragrance,
Dazzling hue
And splendid beauty,
Rose,
Red Rose.

Departed Sister

Departed Sister

Departed sister

Light of our family is blown off
Spreading darkness all around
Heart bleeds to realize the truth,
That you are no more among us all.

Holding your hands, I entered the school
Wondered often at your principles and rules
You led major events, weddings in the family
Remained awestruck at your enormous ability

We all loved you……..
Being jealous at us,……
Disease too started loving you!…..,
Breaking our heart to innumerable pieces

With positive vibes and forbearance
Managed the ailment with smiling countenance,
With a ray of hope and glitter in the eyes
Fought with it valiantly for years…..

As usual destiny had its final wit,
Submitted to ailment, you had a peaceful exit
Now I search you among stars…….
Glittering and shining from far beyond!

Created a perfect vacuum on earthly measures
Left us with our memories of all times…
May you rest in peace in the abode of Almighty
Being a guiding light to the bereaved family!

Dedicated to my dearest sister……

PEN-LOVE

PEN-LOVE

for Ogechi Veronica
THE LOVE I NEVER KNEW
.
would it not be madness
to say I’m in love with imagination?
the heartfelt breath that appears
in the shallow snores of my dreams
upon my stone-pillow at bethel.
.
I have seen hearts melt for beauty
and feet slid for virtues
but all I got lost to, is a breeze
in the shallow thoughts of my imagination
somewhere in the plains of Abia
which spread over the valleys of my brain –
a folktale of my nightmares.
.
I have heard of penpals, and pen friends
on blank sheets of empty promises
on papers that hold the liquid state of the future
but I have jilted Cupid
and stolen from him – a Pen Love –
this again, is madness.
.
tell me, are you short and stumpy?
long and slender, white or black?
I have lost my heart to believe a lie
in the presence of sanity, I have chosen madness
and say, “art thou a manly creation or just a breeze?”
.
and
I ask,
“is Cupid stupid?”
.
